We have been asked a good many times why weh ad to cancel the 2009 Oldtimer Festival at the Nürburgring. Many of our friends have uttered their regret. For us too it was hard making this decision after 26 years of serious work.
We have however decided not to wash our dirty linnen in public. After all we consider ourselves being a “gentlemen’s club”, organising our weekend without putting financial interests first. We are regarded a reliable partner by competitors and promotors, and a bit proud of it, and we want to stay like this in the future. We are not going too much into detail but we want to pass on some informations to enlighten the matter.
As early as June 2008 we had applied for the weekend of 5th – 7th June 2009 with the Nürburgring. But it took them until Octobre 2008 to let us know, that this date would not be at our disposal and stated alternatively May 15th – 17th.
This new date could not be accepted as another race meeting for historic automobiles had been scheduled for the same weekend. It is unthinkable to have two meetings, addressing nearly the same competitors, complementing each other so far, being timed for one weekend
Even more so for our competitors with classic motorbikes. The date proposed would have been squeezed between two other rounds of the German Historic Motorbike Championship, Kölner Kurs on 10.5.09 at the Nürburgring and Oschersleben Börde-Grand Prix on 23.5.09
Of course we tried our very best to get an acceptable date but in vain.
As we could not come up with a solution until January 2009 we decided, bearing in mind our responsibility for DAMC 05, our spectators and competitors, not to hold our meeting in May 2009.
As a matter of fact we are actually since January planing the Oldtimer Festival 2010!
